You wake up from a dead sleep. Something doesn’t feel right. You turn over thinking it will go away. You get up out of bed and look around. Its the middle of the night. Then it hits you. You run to the bathroom because you feel like you will be sick.
While talking to a friend a few days ago who also suffers from anxiety as much as I do, I asked her what she thinks I should write about on my blog and she went on to tell me she had so much anxiety this past weekend it made her throw up. It is all too common for people who suffer with anxiety to become ill quickly. I have had my fair share of nausea and heartburn in the past. When I was a teenager I liked a boy and we went to the movies with a group of friends. I was so nervous the whole time I didn’t eat dinner that night and was running to the bathroom every 15-20 minutes because I was so nervous that he wouldn’t like me (teenager’s worst nightmare) . Ridiculous right?
Your mental health is directly related to your physical health (hello headaches and backaches)
My best piece of advice the next time you wake up feeling nauseous. Don’t fight it. Get up and get some water. While drinking very small sips of water, walk around and get that nervous energy out, and breathe deeply in between sips. Every time I hear someone mention deep breathing I roll my eyes but in this situation it has proven to work.
Something else you could do is to distract yourself anyway you feel fit. You like watching tv? Turn on your favorite show. You like scrolling Facebook/Instagram? Pull it up. I have noticed that I may not have a lot of nervous energy and I just don’t feel right so I lean towards distraction.
I hope this helps!
